It’s ten days since I touched down in Cancun and again I’m at the airport, this time joy is replaced by sadness and hellos have become goodbyes.
As a vacation/future together Belize was an amazing place. Sure it was hot but we’d get used to that with time. It was also pretty expensive but we could get by.
By chance we met a real estate agent on our second day and so we now have a contact to help us through the trials of getting here and getting set up.
It’s gonna take a lot of work but I think it’ll be worth it in the end. People on Belize were always friendly and helpful and they all seemed happy. Since living on Ambergris Caye is a choice the only people who live there want to live there so it makes sense they’d be happy.
Our plan now is to get everything done and sold and saved and head back for around March. It’s dependent on Tims house selling but I think it’s pretty much as soon as we can go back, we will.
Monster out.
We are sitting in the bus terminal in Chetumal Mexico waiting to board the bus to Cancun. In cancun we will have about 24 hours left to enjoy ourselves and each others’ company. I already miss San Pedro as it was beautiful and fun and relaxing. But i take heart knowing it won’t be our last visit.
For our last meal in Belize we decided to try out a place recommended to us by one of the couples on the Lamanai trip, a little place called Warougama.
If you didn’t know where it was you’d never see the place, there’s a sign out front but it blends into the background of a busy street.
If you do see the place then you should definitely head in as the food is to die for. We both had a chicken and cheese quesidilla and a chicken and cheese poposa.
A poposa is a sort of corn pancake fried and stuffed with your choice of fillings, in our case it was chicken and cheese and it was delicious. We even got two more to take with us tomorrow on our journey back to Cancun!
As a last meal for only $25 Warougama was a brilliant choice.
Yesterday morning was our first time doing a proper tour and it was over to the mainland for a tour of some Mayan ruins.
We had an early start and got picked up right at our pier, that’s called good service. I was a bit worried about the boat ride because I felt horrific on the ride over her from Chatemal. I’d picked up some anti-nausea tablets but wasn’t sure how well they’d work. Turned out they work good! I didn’t feel sick at all which I was so happy about.
Afterwards we hopped on a bus for an hour and then back on a boat, this time just a wee one tho. The second boat ride was pretty awesome as just after we set off a monkey hopped on board! A wild monkey and he jumped on and walked amongst us using a couple people as climbing frames. Absolutely adorable and I managed to snap some good shots of him.
Once we got to the dock and had a bite to eat (I’m really taking to rice and beans) we headed over and explored the ruins. Not long after we’d set off we were joined by some other monkeys, although thankfully these ones didn’t get so close! Howler monkeys are not only pretty aggressive they’re also pretty darn loud!
Halfway through the ruins tour we could climb one of the buildings which is the third tallest building in Belize. At only 33 metres (120 feet) it doesn’t seem very high but it’s actually 270 feet above sea level at the top and the view was outstanding.
The climb was pretty tough as the steps were really steep, my mum wouldn’t have gone near the place for any amount of money. Going up was relatively easy tho once you thought about how you were gonna get back down!
But get down we did and then it was a boat, a bus and another boat until we were back at our docks. The rides back were fun because people had been drinking so there was a lot more chat going around.
All in all it was a really fun day and definitely a memorable trip.
